Polpetto will open at the following times during the festive period:

  • 24 December: midday-4.30pm
  • 25 December: closed
  • 26 December: open as usual
  • 27 - 28 December: Sunday hours
  • 29 - 30 December: open as usual
  • 31 December: open until 1am
  • 1 January: closed
  • 2 January: open as usual

The Story

Polpetto opened in 2010 and originally occupied the first floor of the French House pub on Dean Street. It attracted critical acclaim (“amazingly good... flawless... perfect” - The Telegraph) and gained a massive following of fans. But the venue proved too small and the restaurant’s 24 seats were always oversubscribed. It closed in May 2012.

After a year of searching for the right location, Russell Norman and Richard Beatty have relocated the restaurant to Berwick Street. The venue boasts 60 seats, an aperitivo bar, an open kitchen and a chef’s table.

Reservations

Polpetto takes reservations for lunch but does not take reservations for dinner. People often ask us why. Here is why:

At lunchtime, our restaurants are mostly business/meeting destinations. Most people come to meet friends or business contacts and need to know that they can have lunch at a specific time, get back to work, go shopping or pick the children up from school.

In the evening, it’s playtime. Things are a lot more relaxed, we turn the music up and the lights down and to preserve the essential informality of the Polpetto experience, we don’t take bookings. You simply turn up and we sit you down, on arrival if we can, or shortly afterwards if all the tables are full.

Our bar seats, by the way, are always first-come, first-served. So even if we are fully booked at lunchtime, please do turn up for the (whisper it) best seats in the house.

We have a chef’s table overlooking the kitchen that is available for groups of 8-12 people. To book this please email manager@polpetto.co.uk.
